Yet in many commentaries and monographs we still learn of the difference between Galatians and Romans in asides.36 Only a few authors, however, go into the matter in any detail. Among them is Ulrich Luz. He sums up his detailed exegetical studies as follows: ‘The opposition between Gal 3 f. and Rom 9:1–5 and 11:16–32 seems to be insurmountable.’37 But how did this opposition come about? Do we have to reckon with a basic change in Paul’s thinking?
